Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting critical systems and sensitive information from digital attacks. Also known as information technology (IT) security, cybersecurity measures are designed to combat threats against networked systems and applications, whether those threats originate from inside or outside of an organization.

How can I protect myself?

Setting up dual authorization or having multi-factor authentication is a great way to put extra protection on your accounts. It has shown promising signs of success and increases security by prohibiting a single administrator from changing the configuration.

Establishing a unique and complex password/passphrase for every individual online account is encouraged.

Installing and frequently updating an antivirus and/or malware software enables your computer to automatically scan attachments/files before downloading.

Practicing due diligence before opening emails, downloading attachments, clicking on hyperlinks, or responding to an email.  Trust your gut; if something doesn’t look or sound right, ignore it or call the sender at a publicly known phone number.

What are the benefits of cybersecurity?

The benefits of maintaining or implementing cybersecurity practices include:

  1. Protection for networks and data
  2. Business protection against cyberattacks
  3. Prevention of unauthorized user access
  4. Improved recovery time after a breach
